Summer Camp 2011 at Camp Cherry Valley (35 photos w/captions - scroll down)

The boys getting instructions from staff.

Dinner is done, a little free time before flags and campfire. Some of the boys are away for scouts own. Everyone is in great spirits and enjoying themselves. Boys were relaxing playing cards and organizing their gear. Looking forward to Campfire and entertainment.

This is a photo when we arrived at camp, orientation with our camp friends.

We just finished the swim test. Water was cold and very salty. Everyone is safe and most passed. Some will need to retest. Adults all passed.

Commissioners Games
The boys are enjoying the games and bonding with fellow scouts. Our boys attended their merit badge classes and liked their instructors. From what I've seen they seem to be top notched.

The troop participated in a service project for the camp. They are looking forward to dutch oven dessert as a reward.

We completed the service project, silver mine tour and saw the glowing plankton.
Now for our treat!

We had visitors in the afternoon. They are camping near Two Harbor Bay.

Ready for breakfast to charge up for our 5.5 mile hike to Emerald Bay. Everyone is in great spirits. We received packages and mail today.

We just finished the long hike. This is a photo of the boys on top of the hill. We all made it safely and having lunch at the beach.

After lunch the boys got a little free time before we make it back to camp by canoe or kayak. The boys are snorkeling, playing chicken and body surfing.

Scoutmaster Drag - Shawn having fun with the boys.

More Beach fun...

The boys having fun burying a fellow scout at the beach. He did survived the burial.

We all made it back from the canoe and kayak ride back from Emerald Bay. We saw a seal swim near us and some said they saw a dolphin. They had ice cream in in the trading post. That was a welcome treat. We are having burgers tonight as you can see from the grill.

We are enjoying skits at the camp fire tonight.

Games (from prior days).

More Games (from prior days).

Morning Inspection - Boys wake up at 6:15 to prepare for morning inspection. Scores have gotten better everyday. They received a 97 score out of 100 today. Excellent score.

The troop lines up for the morning flag ceremony before they go to their merit badge classes.

Snorkeling - The troop went snorkeling today at two locations. The more advance swimmers went to Eagles Nest and the less experienced to Pirates Cove. The picture shows Pirates Cove. All enjoyed snorkeling, a few boys did rifle shooting and bow and arrow.

The boys made friends with the staff. All smiles, aren't they cute.

Before Dinner - William B does the prayer before dinner. He earns a bronze bead. Tonight are the highland games. It shouldbe fun.

Highland Games - We are having a blast! The games just started.

Wilderness Survival - After enjoying the Highland Games and the Honor Trail last night 11 boys who are taking the wilderness survival went on an overnight trek. They made shelters from materials they have available on site like leaves, sticks and dirt. The photo shows some of the survivors as they came back to camp. They all looked fine and enjoyed the overnight challenge. One even said it was the best sleep ever. This morning we have our final inspection.

Final Inspection - The boys got a 100 percent on today's inspection.

E has arrived safely in camp. Evan and Matt are all set to leave this afternoon.

Torque Ceremony - After our final dinner the boys are led to the Torqua Ceremony for having completed the week long ordeal. The adults were given the Tribesman patch.

Torqua Ceremony - Ceremony is done. Boys received the Brave patch for 1st year and Warrior for 2nd year. Ed, Evan and Matt left at 3pm to head for the boat.

We just got back from final campfire and enjoyed a wonderful program. We saw some of the funniest skits and great songs. Excellent way to close camp. Tomorrow will be cleaning up the camp and checking out after breakfast. I will update you all as we travel home or at least till the troop boards the bus.

Heading to the pier.

Ready to Board - We are waiting to board the ferry and took time to get a final group picture. Dock is too crowded to for our group photo. We found this stage instead.

Waiting - Snacks before we get on the ferry while the staff entertain the boys with songs.

We are on the Ferry.

We have docked.
