Cardboard Boat Derby
May 15th, 2002

RULES

  1. You may use ONLY the following materials to construct your boat:
    • cardboard
    • plastic garbage bags
    • duck tape

  2. You must have a partner(s) AND you and your partner(s) must fit inside the boat.

  3. You may use plastic paddles to row with.

  4. The use of "water guns" will be allowed.

  5. Wear a swim suit (99.9% chance of getting wet!)

RACING PROCEDURE

Boats will race in pairs across the length of the pool.

Races will be timed for each boat.

Racing teams will line up with their boats out of the water at one end of the pool. When the signal is given, the clock starts and the teams will:

  1. Place their boat into the water
  2. Jump into their boat
  3. Paddle to the other end of the pool
  4. Jump out of their boat
  5. Take their boat out of the water and place it on the pool deck.

The clock stops when the team and their boat are out of the water at the other end of the pool.
